چکیده

The calibration of a LE Ge detector system has been performed at CIEMAT Whole Body Counter for the assessment of Am in skull and knee. The facility counts with a Cohen phantom simulating a human head with 1000 Bq of Americium homogeneously distributed in the bone equivalent material. Measurements of the LE Ge system with the skull phantom were carried out in an optimisation study of counting efficiency for Am determination. A Monte Carlo approach was also applied and the mathematical efficiencies were compared with experimental measurements, showing a bias less than 10% at a short detector-skull distance. A Spitz knee phantom simulating internal contamination of Americium in bone was counted for calibration purposes using two LE Ge detectors; the efficiencies obtained for each pair of detectors were used to calculate the Activity contained in the IAEA knee phantom received at CIEMAT during an In-Vivo Intercomparison. A new calibration was performed using the four LE Ge detectors and two knee phantoms. The efficiency obtained with the LE Ge detection system measuring Americium in two knees showed a lower value comparing with skull efficiencies for 59.5 keV emissions. As knee counting geometry was proved to be more comfortable for the subject, an optimisation study of knee counting efficiency will be considered in the future.

Comparison Study of in-vivo and in-vitro Techniques for the Assessment of Internal Exposures of Actinides

In-vivo measurements of actinides are carried out in the CIEMAT Whole Body Counting facility, using a Low Energy germanium detection system (LE Ge) to evaluate the Activity of Am in lungs and skeleton. The sensitivity of the LE Ge detection system in the assessment of the Americium retained in the body is associated to the Minimum Detectable Activity (MDA) estimated in the different available i...

Implementation of quadratic dose protocol for 18F-FDG whole-body PET imaging using a BGO-based PET/CT scanner, GE Discovery ST

Introduction: The ability of quadratic dose protocol to maintain a good quality image for an overweight and obese patient is well reported. However, a practical approach to the implementation of this protocol in whole-body imaging in Malaysia is currently lacking. Hence, the aim of this study is to derive the quadratic dose formula that suits our PET system. Metho...

تعیین پروتکل بهینه جهت اندازه گیری میزان تراکم استخوان با استفاده از MRI Relaxometry و مقایسه نتایج حاصل با تکنیک DEXA

Introduction & Objective : The aim of this study was to optimize MRI conventional protocols for BMD(Bone Mineral Density) measurements using MRI Relaxometry in systems not facilitated with special multi echo protocols. Since, cortical and trabecular bone separation can not be performed in DEXA, so the results might lead to erroneous interpretation of BMD values. One method for bone quality dete...
